For content objects, as well as for objects at the larger, topic level, there are best-practice templates available to the creator if he or she wants to use them.

T E M P L A T E S

A content object template is specific to the combination of information type and purpose. For topics, the template is specific to the combination of format, outcome, and task.

An organization can create its own customized template preferences.

The intention of the templates is to encourage best practice and limit the size and complexity of topics and content objects.

For example, a template for a particular kind of topic might include a space at the beginning for an Intro content object, including an explanation of why you need it the introductory piece and possibly how to search for an existing one or create a new one. Then it might provide a space for an Exposition type content object, explaining that this is the place for an informational exposition. After that, it might continue with an example, then a practice or quiz, and so on.

The creator is never required to use the template provided, but can modify it or another template or create an entirely new template.
