Summary of Usability Issues « Usability 5
Inconsistent global and sub navigation
- Placement inconsistent relative to page and each other
 - Inconsistent content and links
 - Missing navigation
 - Logo not linked to home (not following established navigation conventions)
 - Dead ends trigger back button escape mode
 - Inconsistent footer navigation—legal, copyright, privacy, accessibility

Missing "just-in-time" navigation
- Lacking navigation elements that provide sitewide help to users at any time
 - Lacking navigation support for frequent and common global (sitewide) actions such as search, site map, login, contact

Poor information organization and hierarchy
- 2-D, flat organization (not enough drill-down)
 - Too much drill-down (no breadcrumbs to extricate)
 - Lack of organization impedes semantic HTML markup

Poor visual hierarchy and user feedback
- Unclear about first action to take
 - Unclear about what information is important
 - Where am I? Which department, which site section... which academic institution?

Too many words and poor choice of words
- Paths to information obscured by overwriting
 - Needless didactic text accompanying basic precepts
 - "Click here" as a call to action is vague, uncompelling, and a problem for disabled users browsing with screenreaders.
 - Different words for similar processes generate confusion
